Education task
  • You will have educational responsibilities for courses in the domain of epidemiology in the Master of Statistics at Hasselt University. 
  • You will also teach courses in mathematics and statistics in various other programmes (bachelor/masters) at Hasselt University. 
  • You can also be involved in the organisation and supervision of Bachelortheses/Mastertheses.

Research mission
  • It is expected that you will strengthen and/or extend (both from a methodological and an application area perspective) the current research themes in infectious disease epidemiology at CenStat and I-BioStat. 
  • You will search for collaboration with research groups computational mathematics and/or dynamical systems.
  • You attract researchers and acquire funds for fundamental, applied and innovative research.
  • You will supervise PhD-students. 
  • You show organizational commitment and contribute to the objectives from the capacity group mathematics-statistics.
Profile
  • You have obtained a PhD in statistics or mathematics (or equivalent)
  • A demonstrable experience in mathematical epidemiology
  • You have proven scientific experience in theoretical and data-driven research and have published in international scientific publications.
  • You have got experience with respect to various aspects of academic education: coordination and organization of courses, development of teaching materials and supervision of practical projects and dissertations.
  • You are cooperative, you can work well in teams and you show commitment.
  • You are fluent in written and oral communication.
  • A demonstrable experience in preparation and acquisition of scientific grants at national/international level is an added advantage.
  • You are involved in national/international partnerships.
  • Academic staff must meet the statutory language requirements for knowledge of the official administrative language (Dutch, CEFR level B2) and the language of instruction (CEFR level C1). If necessary, Hasselt University offers concrete, tailored support measures to help achieve the required language level.
Offer
The appointment will be as following:
- Either an appointment as a lecturer in the tenure track system during 5 years. This will lead to an immediate permanent contract as a senior lecturer, if the Board of Directors favorably assesses the party involved, based on previously set public grading criteria.
- Otherwise, we will offer a fulltime appointment as a lecturer or higher, which will lead to tenure. In case of a first appointment as a member of the academic staff, the Board of Directors of the University can decide on a temporary appointment for a period up to 3 years. This will lead to a permanent contract if the Board of Directors favorably assesses the party involved.
Selection procedure

The selection procedure consists of a preselection based on application file, an introductory interview, a in-depth interview (with assignment) and an assessment center. If required, a selection exam can be held after preselection.
