Are you strong on the technological side of educational development and innovation? Do you want to use that expertise to help shape the educational programs of the Biomedical Sciences Department?

The department is looking for an expert in teaching and learning who will provide technological support to the teaching staff involved in our programs, our international collaborations within the Alliance network, and beyond.The Biomedical Sciences Department’s education portfolio is geared towards international students who wish to strengthen and/ordeepen their research skills in basic or translational research on the biology, ecology, and epidemiology of selected pathogens and their vectors. The portfolio is managed by the Departemental Education Coordinator, to whom you will report. We run two Master’s programs (MSc in Global One Health and MSc Tropical Medicine - orientation Biomedical Sciences) and specialized short courses on Molecular Data for infectious diseases and on Drug-resistant Tuberculosis. We also collaborate for educational activities with partner institutes all over the world through a Belgian Development Cooperation funded project called the “Alliance for Education in Tropical Medicine and International Public Health”.

The Institute of Tropical Medicine (ITM) in Antwerp aims at the advancement and spread of science that contributes to infectious disease medicine and to public health globally with focus on low- and middle income countries. The ITM provides fundamental, translational and applied scientific research, delivers advanced education and provides medical, scientific and societal expert services. It is an open and international campus where staff, students and researchers work on new international health challenges.

Your assignment:

  • You are the reference person of the department for techno-pedagogical innovation including technology-enhanced learning.
  • You will support relevant stakeholders (students, teachers, course coordinators, international partners, …) with the development of teaching and learning tasks and their adaptation to a face-to-face, blended, or e-learning modality: .
    • You will offer advice and support on instructional design, including assessment methods.
    • You will contribute to the development, evaluation, and implementation of innovative teaching methods, technologies and teaching material, to maintain and improve educational quality.
    • You will train teaching staff in the use of innovative teaching & learning methods.
    • You will train teaching staff in the use of educational technology, such as the LMS (Moodle) or digital interactivity tools.
  • You will build expertise, and keep up to date with international evolutions in adult learning and technology-enhanced learning to define innovative proposals and convert these into effective learning initiatives.
  • You will build an internal and external network of contacts relevant to your field of expertise.
  • You will work in close collaboration with student representatives, teaching staff, education coordinators, and support staff of the three scientific departments of ITM, ITM Education Office, and partner institutions.
