The Department of Linguistics in the Faculty of Arts has the following part-time (20 %) vacancy: teaching assistant in the field of German Professional and Academic Communication.

Position

As a teaching assistant, you will be part of the Academic Assistant Staff (Dutch: Assisterend Academisch Personeel, AAP). Your main focus will be on supporting practice-based teaching. In addition, you will actively contribute to service activities.

Education

  • You will assist in practice-based programme components in the field of German Professional and Academic Communication and teach courses to two groups of the course unit German for Business and Economics 2 (3 credits, Faculty of Business and Economics, Bachelor 2).
  • Your teaching role will evolve along with the study programmes.
  • You will play a role in ensuring activating, student-centred and competence-driven education.
  • You will assist in the development of teaching methods, exercises, teaching and study materials, several evaluation types and in the organisation of language labs and lectures, student assessments and other activities related to teaching.
  • Familiarity with the economy, business life and culture of Germany and German-speaking countries and regions is recommended.
  • Experience with teaching communication skills in German in higher education or in a business context is an asset.
  • Interest in or experience with distance education and blended learning is an asset.

Services

  • You will play an active role in the academic and societal service provision of the section of German for Academic and Professional Purposes. You will also assist in student recruitment and alumni activities, serve on boards and committees, and participate in the organisation of events, among other activities.

Profile

  • You hold a Master degree in Language and literature (option German) or Translation science (option German) or you will have obtained it by the time you start working.
  • Your teaching competences are in line with the University of Antwerp’s educational vision . Teaching experience or a certificate of pedagogical competence obtained through a teacher training programme or similar course would be an advantage.
  • You take a student-focused approach and you activate student learning.
  • You can demonstrate good communication skills and you are able to get complex information across clearly.
  • You act with attention to quality, integrity, creativity and cooperation.
  • You have an excellent oral and written command of German (C2 of the CEF)

What we offer

  • We offer an appointment as a teaching assistant for a period of 1 year. Following a positive evaluation, the appointment can be renewed.
  • Your gross monthly salary is calculated according to the pay scale  for an assistant (Academic Assistant Staff, AAP). If you work part time, your salary is calculated proportionally on the basis of your employment percentage.
  • You will receive ecocheques, Internet-connectivity allowance and a bicycle allowance or a full reimbursement of public transport costs for commuting.                                                                                                                                                                                                  
  • The planned start date is 15 September 2023, or as soon as possible after that date.
  • You will do most of your work at the city campus of the University of Antwerp in a dynamic and stimulating working environment.
