YOUR TASKS

  • You will provide assistance in the practice-based aspects of teaching at the Biology department, in particular the organization, mentoring and evaluation of practical exercises,, working lectures and excursions. The teaching assignment focuses on biological course components within the Bachelor's programmes in Biology, Biochemistry & Biotechnology and Pharmacy, aimed at biodiversity, ecology, functional biology and evolution. The concrete interpretation of this depends on the availability of the candidate.

    In particular, you can be engaged in the following course units:

  • Biodiversity of invertebrates (Ba1 Biology)
  • Biodiversity of plants (Ba1 Biology)
  • Biodiversity of animals (Ba1 Biochemistry & Biotechnology)
  • Biodiversity of plants (Ba1 Biochemistry & Biotechnology)
  • Practicum: basic observations cytology, histology and anatomy (Ba1 Pharmacy)
  • ...

WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR

  • You hold a degree of Master of Biology (preferably), or a degree of Master of Bioscience Engineering or in a subject considered relevant by the selection committee or equivalent. For diplomas awarded outside the European Union, a certificate of equivalence (NARIC) must be submitted. The degree requirements need to be fulfilled at the start of your appointment.
  • You are involved in other professional activities and/or you have demonstrable experience that may contribute to the quality of the practice-based teaching at the department.
  • You have a sufficient command of Dutch to be able to give guidance to Dutch-speaking students.
  • You are interested in a teaching assignment in the specific above-mentioned fields.
  • Any teaching experience or participation in extra training, conferences, etc. is recommended.
  • Experience in mentoring university or college students, in group or individually, will be regarded favourably.
  • Organization skills are recommended.

WHAT WE CAN OFFER YOU

  • We offer you a 10% appointment of one year. A 20% position with the same mission and profile requirements is offered at the same time. If you aspire an appointment of 30%, you need to apply for both positions. This position may be renewed indefinitely for five years at a time. Attention : You cannot be appointed for a cumulative percentage of more than 30% as a Teaching Assistant at Ghent University.
  • Your appointment will start on 1 February 2023 at the earliest.
  • Your remuneration will be determined according to salary scale AAP3. More information about our salary scales .
