YOUR TASKS

The European project ‘Everyday writing from Greco-Roman and Late Antique Egypt. A socio-semiotic study of communication variation’ (EVWRIT; www.evwrit.ugent.be ), led by prof. Klaas Bentein, studies the communicative choices made by everyday writers from antiquity, focusing on Greek papyri from the Roman and Late Antique period (letters, petitions, and contracts in particular). 

The scientific collaborator will assist with the linguistic annotation of the corpus; s/he will assist with the revision of existing linguistic annotations in the project’s database, as well as with the creation of new linguistic annotations. S/he will focus on the analysis of co-ordination, subordination and formulaic language, in close collaboration with prof. Klaas Bentein and other team members working in these areas. 

WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR

  • You hold a Master’s degree in Ancient Greek language and literature.
  • Master’s degrees in related disciplines such as Ancient History will also be taken into account. 
  • An in-depth knowledge of Ancient Greek is essential, as well as the capacity to work with an electronic database on a daily basis, and to process large quantities of information. 
  • An acquaintance with digital humanities and/or papyrology is an asset. 

WHAT WE CAN OFFER YOU

  • We offer you a contract of definite duration for the period of one year.
  • Your remuneration will be determined by salary scale WM1 to WM4 (if you hold a Master’s degree) or salary scale PD1 to PD4 (if you hold a doctorate).  Click here  for more information about our salary scales.
