Research
The appointed candidate is expected to develop an international, competitive research program, to pursue excellent scientific results at an international level and to support and promote national and international research partnerships. The candidate should have a strong research profile. In addition, the candidate is expected to have a multidisciplinary attitude and a willingness to cooperate intensively with other researchers and research units at the Department of Biology and the KU Leuven at large.
The candidate:

  • Is an excellent, internationally oriented researcher and develops a research program at the forefront of Ecological, Environmental and Evolutionary Genomics that focuses on the (mal)adaptation of natural populations of aquatic organisms.
  • Brings complementary and new expertise in molecular ecology by applying molecular genetic techniques (e.g., genomics, transcriptomics, metabarcoding and metagenomics) to address questions in ecology, evolution, ecotoxicology, behavior and conservation biology. 
  • Strengthens current research lines by working closely with the members of the Biology Department on ‘Eco- and socio-evolutionary dynamics’ and/or ‘Global change biology’. 
  • Publishes at the highest scientific level in top 5% journals of her/his research field.
  • Develops her/his own independent research group.
  • Is an inspiring team player. 
  • Supervises master students, PhD students and postdocs at a high international level. 
  • Aims to acquire competitive research funding from national and/or international agencies and submits successful research project proposals for this purpose.
  • Establishes strong local, national and international partnerships in the context of the research program.
  • Strives for excellence in research and provides a contribution to the international research reputation of the Division ‘Ecology, Evolution and Biodiversity conservation’, the Department of Biology and KU Leuven.
  • Has a pronounced interest in fundamental research but also pays attention to the valorization and applications of her/his research findings.
  • Consolidates and manages the aquatic genomics laboratory and maintains close ties with the KU Leuven Genomics Core (www.genomicscore.be ). 

Teaching
