OFFER DESCRIPTION

The research expert is responsible for expanding his/her expertise in consultation with the head of unit and the other ZAP members. This includes the following tasks:

  • Conducting legal scientific research and managing the research cluster on cybersecurity;
  • Coaching junior researchers;
  • Setting out new research priorities;
  • Attracting additional funding for the research expert him/herself and for junior researchers;
  • Representing the research group in diverse forums, such as policy, advisory and expert groups at national and international level, and in particular towards the stakeholders of the Cybersecurity Initiative Flanders;
  • Translating his/her own expertise into high level international scientific publications;
  • Participating to top-level national and international conferences and workshops;
  • Contributing to the general functioning of the research group as a member of its core group and through communication channels like the blog, the monthly group meetings, by organizing internal workshops,…
  • Taking up limited teaching assignments and giving guest lectures focusing on his/her unique expertise;
  • Developing and maintaining networks with other national and international research groups as well as with governmental and industrial partners with a view to valorizing research results; contributing to the Outreach & Communication and Training activities of the Flanders Cybersecurity Policy Plan.

Eligibility criteria

  • You obtained a PhD in Law on a subject that is relevant to the field of cybersecurity or closely related fields, such as cybercrime or data protection.
  • You have demonstrable experience in coaching young researchers and setting out research priorities.
  • You are familiar with proposal writing and the channels of research funding at European and national level.
  • You have an analytical mind, creative thinking and a passion for critical reflection.
  • You possess good communication skills in Dutch and in English, both orally and in writing.
  • You are flexible and can work individually as well as in (interdisciplinary) teams.
  • You can independently plan your work, set priorities where necessary, respect deadlines and can also work under time pressure with respect for colleagues and with the ambition to deliver high quality.
  • Several years of relevant experience as i.a. PhD and postdoc is an added value and can be valorized, subject to approval by the Faculty Board, through increased seniority.
  • Given the strong link between CiTiP’s ongoing cybersecurity research and the Flanders Cybersecurity Policy Plan, active knowledge of Dutch is an added value.
