The VIB-KU Leuven Center for Brain & Disease Research is part of the VIB Life Sciences Institute and is embedded within the University of Leuven, which ranks among the world’s top 50 universities. At our Center, 300 researchers study the basic mechanisms of the central nervous system and related diseases.

The Vanderhaeghen Lab is looking for a full-time, highly motivated, and dedicated research technician. Our research team works on brain development and disease, combining human stem cell technology and mouse models. The candidate will get the opportunity to train and work with a variety of experimental systems, from molecular to cellular biology to in vivo work.

Position

In this position the focus is on:

  • independently perform cell culture experimental work and molecular biology
  • independently perform in vivo mouse experimental work and apply histological techniques

In addition, the position is jointly responsible for the close monitoring of safety, health, and environmental aspects in the lab. The introduction of these regulations to new employees is also part of the job description.

Finally, the function is also responsible for performing various general laboratory tasks such as general maintenance, replenishing consumables, and reordering materials and reagents.


Profile
  • You possess a degree in Biomedical or Biological Sciences (Professional Bachelor/Master/Engineer) or equivalent.
  • A FELASA B license for animal work is an advantage.
  • Experience with cell culture, molecular biology, and/or histology is an asset.
  • Experience in in vivo mouse experimental work is an asset
  • Experience in microscopy techniques and the ability to apply these techniques independently is an asset.
  • Experience with safety, health, and environmental regulation within KU Leuven is a plus.
  • You must be meticulous, proactive, independent, and self-motivated.
  • You are eager to expand your skills in new technologies.
  • You like to work in a team, and you are passionate about science.
  • You are fluent in written and spoken English.
