research associate Doctoral researcher Bioinformatics/Data Science
As doctoral researchers, you prepare a PhD in the domain of biostatistics within the Data Science Institute of Hasselt University ( You will work within the Center for Statistics, the UHasselt entity of I-Biostat ( The PhD research project will take place within a joint collaboration of the University of Hasselt (Belgium), the University of Durham (UK) and a large pharmaceutical company which will be focused on integrated analysis of single cell omics data.
Job content
The research will focus on developing and implementing innovative computational methodologies for single-cell bioinformatics analysis. 
You will will perform customized and state of the art bioinformatics analyses and results interpretation on locally-generated or publicly-available single-cell omics data. You will improve or develop new methodologies for high-dimensional and multi-source data clustering and supervised machine learning applicable to single-cell omics data generated from 10X Genomics platform. 

  • You obtained a master degree in biostatistics, applied statistics, Bioinformatics or statistical bioinformatics. (or equivalent)
  • You are cooperative and can work well in teams.
  • You are fluent in written and oral communication in English. Knowledge of Dutch and/or French is an added value.
  • You have strong research interest in statistics.
  • You have proven strong knowledge in statistics.
  • You are acquainted with statistical methodologies and had exposure to computer programming in SAS/R/Winbugs/Python.
  • You are willing to closely collaborate with biologists/biostatisticians from the pharmaceutical industry.
  • You have work experience with different “omics” platforms.
You will be appointed and paid as research associate .
