Professor Mathematics/Discrete techniques in Data Science

The candidate will contribute to the innovation of the Bachelor of Mathematics in the direction of Mathematics and Data Science, and to the Master programme in mathematics. The candidate will play a leading role in developing courses in mathematics, also for other disciplines. Concretely, the following courses will be part of the teaching assignment:

  • Linear algebra (English, 6SP)
  • Analysis (English, 9SP)
  • Wiskunde voor data-science (Dutch, 6SP, Ba)
  • Computeralgebra: fundamenten en toepassingen (Dutch, 6SP, MA)
  • Wiskunde: calculus en lineaire algebra (Dutch, 4 SP, 1Ba WE)

These assignments fit within the educational innovation with respect to the mathematics education in the faculty of Sciences and Bio-engneering sciences and the faculty of Engineering. The first four courses need to be set up, whereas the last course needs to be renewed. The English courses are embedded in a transition programme for a heterogeneous student group, allowing them to obtain the necessary prerequisites to start a Master in Engineering.

The candidate is expected to guide Bachelor, Master and PhD theses, also in the context of the collaboration with the "International Bachelor CergYgrec: Modelling and Data Science for a Changing World." This collaboration is part of the restructuring of the Bachelor Programme Mathematics to a Bachelor Programme “Mathematics and Data Science”.

The candidate is also expected to actively contribute to, and preferably to have provable experience with projects relating to educational innovation.
