PROFESSOR IN ELECTRICAL ENGINEERING: CONTROL SYSTEMS FOR HUMAN-CENTERED APPLICATIONS

Updated: over 2 years ago
Job Type: FullTime
Deadline: 16 Nov 2021

Research
Control systems have had a tremendous impact in diverse engineering domains and application areas. The design and implementation of control systems relies on various scientific disciplines including mathematical modeling, signals and systems theory, electrical engineering, and sensor and actuator design. The focus of this position is on the design and implementation of human-centered control systems. This includes human-in-the-loop control systems in which either the plant or the controller involves human interaction, as well as control systems of which the design criterion relies on (models of) human perception, behavior and/or physiology. We welcome applications from candidates who have the potential to set up an innovative and internationally oriented research program on human-centered control systems. A maximal synergy with the available research expertise at ESAT-STADIUS (mathematical modeling, systems theory, signal processing) and at the e-Media Research Lab (human-centered systems for health care, learning, arts and entertainment) should be targeted in the candidate's research program. You publish at the highest scientific level, acquire competitive research funding, and supervise PhD projects at an international level. You endorse the international research strategy and contribute to the further strengthening of the scientific reputation of ESAT-STADIUS and the e-Media Research Lab by taking a key role in the network of scientific and international collaborations in the aforementioned research domain.
Teaching
You provide high-quality education in the Bachelor and/or Master program of the KU Leuven Faculty of Engineering Technology, with a clear commitment to the quality of the program as a whole. You also contribute to the pedagogical project of the faculty/university through the supervision of master's theses and as supervisor of PhD candidates.Your teaching duties may include generic engineering courses in the first/second stage of the Bachelor of Engineering Technology program (e.g., Mathematical Modelling, Electronics) as well as courses in the Electronics Engineering specialisation of the Bachelor/Master of Engineering Technology program (e.g., Systems and Control Theory, Sensors and Actuators). You have an outspoken interest in next-generation engineering education and are willing to evolve throughout your career towards substantial educational engagements. You develop your teaching in accordance with the vision of KU Leuven on activating, blended and research-based education and make use of the possibilities for educational professionalization offered by the faculty and the university.
Service
Next to research and teaching, we value service to the scientific community (e.g., by car... For more information see https://www.kuleuven.be/personeel/jobsite/jobs/60023971
