Post-doctoral Research Challenge : Effective Feedback Dashboards in Education and Training

The research group Edubron of the Faculty of Social Sciences at the University of Antwerp is seeking post-doctoral candidates willing to write research proposals that tackle the “Effective Feedback Dashboards in Education and Training Challenge”. We seek innovative research proposals that aim to bridge current developments in the research fields of learning analytics, assessment and feedback, and school/organizational effectiveness research which are key areas of research within the research group Edubron. The research group Edubron provides unique research opportunities for this research challenge as we are heading projects in which feedback dashboards are developed and investigated in diverse educational and professional contexts. External and internal post-doc researchers who are eligible to submit an FWO or MSCA post-doc application are invited to participate. The top ranked candidate(s) with the best profile (excellent project proposal & competitive academic CV) acquire a temporal post-doctoral research position to write and submit a competitive research proposal to FWO (Flemish Science Foundation) or MSCA (Horizon Europe Marie Curie fellowships), with the University of Antwerp as host institution. A preparatory full-time or part-time mandate of at least 6 months (up to a maximum of 12 months) will be provided.

Profile

  • You hold a PhD in Training and Education Sciences, Education Sciences, Pedagogical Sciences, Psychological Sciences or Social Sciences (or you obtain the academic degree of doctor in these disciplines before 1st  October 2023);
  • You have published in international peer-reviewed journals with impact (a.o. Web of Science), in the wide area of research on Learning, Assessment and Feedback in Education and/or Training;
  • You have advanced expertise in quantitative and/or qualitative research and related data analysis software;
  • You speak and write English and/or Dutch fluently;
  • You are highly motivated, quality-oriented, creative and cooperative;
  • Your research qualities are in line with the faculty university research policies ;
  • You show your academic and innovative research talent in a research proposal (max. 2 to 4 pages; and see participation requirements);
  • You comply with the FWO Post Doc and Marie Sklodowska-Curie Post-doc eligibility criteria:
    • You hold a PhD by thesis or a degree or a diploma or certificate recognized as equivalent in accordance with European Union directives or a bilateral agreement,
    • Your PhD was obtained not longer than 3 years before October, 1st  2024,
    • You have not yet benefited from a FWO Post-doc grant, nor a Marie Sklodowska-Curie Post-doc grant,
    • You have not applied earlier for any of these two fellowships,
    • You must have a maximum of eight years’ experience in research, from the date of the award of your PhD degree, years of experience outside research and career breaks will not count towards the above maximum, nor will years of experience in research in third countries, for nationals or long-term residents of EU Member States or Horizon Europe Associated Countries who wish to reintegrate to Europe.

What we offer

  • We offer a full-time Post-doc position for a period of one year for international post-doctoral candidates that have not worked in Belgium for the past two years OR for internal post-doctoral candidates, a part-time position of at least six months;
  • As postdoctoral scholarship holder, your monthly scholarship amount is calculated according to the scholarship amounts  for postdoctoral scholarship holders on the pay scales for Contract Research Staff (Dutch: Bijzonder Academisch Personeel, BAP);
  • As postdoctoral researcher, your gross monthly salary is calculated according to the pay scale for a principal research fellow in the Contract Research Staff category (Dutch: Bijzonder Academisch Personeel, BAP);
  • You will receive benefits such as ecocheques, group insurance, internet-connectivity allowance, a full reimbursement of public transport costs for commuting;
  • Academic support for developing a competitive proposal which goes significantly beyond the state-of-the-art in the domain of the research challenge;
  • The start date of the appointment is the 1st  of July 2023 at the earliest;
  • You will be immersed in the research group Edubron and work at the city centre campus, in a dynamic and stimulating work environment and also will have access to the Antwerp Social Lab, with up-to-date psychophysiological research equipment (a.o. eye-tracking devices, heart rate, EDA, facial EMG);
