The Department of Internal Medicine and Paediatrics is responsible for high-quality education and research from laboratory to clinic and back, in order to provide innovative and patient-oriented care over the entire life course. This vacancy will strengthen the rheumatology research and education in the department.

YOUR TASKS

  • At least 70% of your assignment will be spent on academic research in the field of rheumatology. You conduct your research within the Department of Rheumatology in the Department of Internal Medicine and Paediatrics. You will enter into collaborations with other researchers within and outside the department. In the context of your research, you support academic projects, but there is also room to initiate new projects. You will play a key role in supporting existing research lines within the department of rheumatology
  • You help with the development and follow up of a translational research line in rheumatology with focus on autoimmune diseases in collaboration with different medical specialities in which multidisciplinarity is instrumental.
  • You will assist in teaching activities at the Bachelor’s or Master’s level.
  • You will counsel Master’s students in their exercises, work placement and Master’s dissertation.
  • You will counsel doctoral students.
  • You will assist in more general teaching assignments of the department, when necessary.
  • You will assist in the internal and external services of the department.

WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR

  • You hold a doctoral degree. For diplomas awarded outside the European Union, a certificate of equivalence (NARIC) must be submitted. The degree requirements need to be fulfilled at the start of your appointment.
  • You have a master's degree in health sciences (including medicine, biomedical sciences, nursing and midwifery); or master's degree in pharmaceutical sciences, bioscience or sciences.
  • Experience in rheumatology research including preclinical research is an added value.
  • You have distinguished yourself as a promising researcher in your doctorate.
  • You are profoundly interested in coaching students in the Bachelor’s, Master’s and/or Advanced Master’s programmes.
  • You may present relevant scientific publications in (inter)national peer-reviewed academic journals that are widely disseminated.
  • You have knowledge of the relevant laws and regulations regarding clinical studies and the Good Clinical Practice principles or you are willing to acquire them.
  • You possess the necessary communication, social and organizational skills

WHAT WE CAN OFFER YOU

  • We offer you a temporary appointment of 3 years. A second appointment of up to 3 years can follow, subject to a favourable evaluation of the first term.
  • Even if you have already been appointed earlier (whether or not at another university and whether or not in the same field of discipline) in a first term of up to three years, you can apply.
  • The second appointment does not have to be immediately connected to a first term your appointment will start on 15 November 2022 at the earliest.
  • Your remuneration will be determined according to salary scale AAP5. More information about our salary scales .
