The HEC Digital Lab is the transdisciplinary centre of excellence, within HEC Liège, spearheading research & education in Digital Technologies. As part of its expansion, it is now looking for a PhD researcher to work for an industry-sponsored PhD research project. A description of the lab can be found below and online at www.digitallab.be .

JOB DESCRIPTION

We are offering fully-funded PhD position in the area of chatbots and conversation modelling.

You can expect to work on exciting, new challenges, such as

 Intent detection and topic detection from conversational data

 Developing new methods for evaluating chatbot performance

 Investigating the impact of embeddings across languages

In addition, you will have the opportunity to

 Interact with a professional team of data scientists and engineers from academia and industry

 Attend international conferences and summer/doctoral schools

 Be exposed to real-life working environments and problems

 Interact with a young team of researchers in AI/NLP and other fields, such as Marketing, Finance and Law

YOUR PROFILE

 You have a strong Master’s degree in a field relevant to the project (computer science, commercial engineer, civil engineer)

 You have a good understanding and practical experience with state-of-the-art methods in machine learning, NLP or other data science subfields

 You have good communication skills

CONTRACT

This is a full-time position for four years. The salary will be set according to the doctoral researcher salary scale of the University of Liège under grant holder status. The candidate will start as soon as possible, and at the latest in September 2023.
