Medical informatics and AI researcher (# of pos: 2)

You will be developing AI-connected medical informatics at the VUB as part of the European Horizon 2020 Hosmart-AI project. In this interdisciplinary position, you will work together with researchers and legal experts at the VUB, as well as medical practitioners and ICT specialists at the University Hospital Brussels (UZ Brussel), for two key aims: i) finding solutions to connect and integrate patient data, ranging from medical images to molecular information, in order to ii) analyse these integrated data with artificial intelligence approaches. In addition, you will liaise with the Hosmart-AI project (https://www.hosmartai.eu ), a marketplace for medical AI-based solutions. This includes assisting the development of two Hosmart-AI pilot projects at the VUB, within the UZ Brussels: the Smart Cathlab assistant, an AI based system to help clinicians with cardiological interventions (https://www.uzbrussel.be/en/web/centrum-voor-hart-en-vaatziekten ), and TumorScope, a project to assist with the identification of solid tumors, in particular glioma (http://tumorscope.be/ ).

The involved research groups are i) the Bio2Byte group led by Prof. Dr. Wim Vranken, which works on the prediction of protein characteristics, and the interpretation of these predictions in relation to the life sciences, such as molecular causes of human diseases (see https://bio2byte.be/ ); ii) the Centre for Cardiovascular Diseases (CHVZ), which works with the state-of-the-art Cathlab (Philips) for Interventional Cardiology, with the Pilot Smart Cathlab led by Dr. Jean-Francois Argacha and Prof Dr. Bernard Cosyns; iii) the medical image analysis group led by Prof. Dr. Jef Vandemeulebroucke, part of the electronics and informatics department (http://www.etrovub.be ); iv) the BrightCore genomics high throughput core (http://www.brightcore.be ).
