Flanders BioImaging (FBI https://www.flandersbioimaging.org/) is an interuniversity consortium dedicated to biomedical imaging and advanced light microscopy, that was set up to integrate, optimize, rationalize and coordinate available imaging infrastructure in Flanders, facilitating access to external users.  


Job description 

VIB is looking for a motivated and knowledgeable imaging data steward. We plan to build a service for storing, sharing, and analyzing image data. You will engage with the VIB’s imaging technology platforms and interface with other imaging resources at Flemish universities in the framework of Flanders BioImaging.   Applications include biomedical imaging, common microscopy application including confocal, light sheet, and other advanced applications, as well as spatial omics technologies such as multiplexed (Fluorescent In Situ Hybridization (FISH), multiplexed proteomic and sequencing technologies.

We strive to define an environment where platforms and their users can work together with projects involving image data and identify the requirements for submission to long-term data repositories. You will work in a team of researchers and engineers to help shape the institutional as well as Flemish data infrastructure in imaging. Our institute greatly values diverse standpoints and promotes an inclusive environment in which everyone is respected.

Your role will be central to the new institutional and regional data initiatives connecting services for life science data from Flanders and internationally. Future service also includes collaboration with international partners, especially in matters concerning metadata and curation, and regarding FAIR and open science in general. 

The successful candidate will work in VIB Core Facilities in Leuven and Ghent.


Profile
  • You have experience in biomedical imaging. 
  • You have dealt with curation of life science data. 
  • You enjoy participating in training activities and have organized workshops and courses in the past. 
  • You have led work related to research data management and metadata for imaging data. 
  • You enjoy working in collaboration with interest groups for FAIR and open science. 
  • Experience in bioinformatics, scripting, and computation is a plus. 
  • You are fluent in English and possibly Flemish. 

We offer 

A full-time position for 2 years initially.
