Faculty Position

A tenure-track faculty position is opened in the Department of Medicine of the University of Namur (UNamur, Belgium; https://www.unamur.be/en ). We are recruiting an outstanding scientist to develop, as a principal investigator, original and forward-looking research in the field of biochemistry/molecular or cellular biology (animal or human), inside the Research Unit in Molecular Physiology (URPhyM) in the Faculty of Medicine and inside the Namur Research Institute in Life Sciences (NARILIS). Research projects developed by URPhyM members have in common the study of molecular bases of biological functions in normal and pathological conditions ( https://www.unamur.be/medecine/urphym  ). NARILIS ( https://www.narilis.be/  ) is a research institute including more than 150 researchers working in diverse fields of Life Sciences. It fosters interdisciplinary collaborations between our university and hospitals (CHU-UCL-Namur) and supports innovating research in every health-related domain.

The candidate’s proposal must include a description of his/her collaborative network, future funding opportunities, and indicate technological and conceptual expertise (for examples:  in mass spectrometry, 3D cellular models, single cell-analysis, data mining,…).

The candidate will contribute to teaching biochemistry to medical students and veterinary students (bachelor degree). The candidate must be competent to teach metabolism-related topics in French. The candidate will also be in charge, in collaboration with a colleague, of the teaching unit “Initiation to bibliography research and critical presentation of the results”. This course is part of the formation of students in biomedical sciences. The candidate will also contribute to academic activities and actively participate to councils of the department and the faculty. 

Qualifications of the candidate:

  • a PhD degree in a Life Sciences field, obtained after a master in medicine (human or veterinary), in biomedical sciences, in pharmacy, in bioengineering or in biology;
  • post-doctoral experience (minimum 12 consecutive months);
  • teaching abilities ;
  • recognized scientific excellence (quality of the research proposal, scientific career achievements, publications in renowned journals, extent of international collaboration,…);
  • be ready to supervise a research team

  • The candidate’s qualifications and competences as described above
  • Quality of the scientific proposal and quality of the teaching vision statement
  • Quality of scientific publications

Other criteria :

  • Creativity and innovation in teaching methods
  • Length, number of post-doctoral fellowships and associated achievements

May be considered as additional assets:

  • Extent of the teaching experience
  • Experience as a team leader / collaborations
  • Demonstration of some ability to obtain/secure grants

Of note, the position is first attributed for 3 years. After this 3-year trial period, the candidate will be confirmed in the tenure-track position, pertaining a positive evaluation by the evaluation commission.
