OFFER DESCRIPTION

  • In this PhD topic we want to study SRAM memory customization and optimization to improve the overall performance of machine learning processors.  The focus is on applications, where energy efficiency is the key figure, e.g. biomedical applications like hearing aids or intelligent IoT nodes. We want to investigate whether extending memories with advanced addressing mode e.g., will help to lower energy consumption for a given throughput. Also, the area budget should not dramatically increase. This project runs in cooperation with an industrial partner and is part of a larger research effort towards energy efficient ML processors.
  • After a literature and feasibility study you will be expected to design and validate innovative SRAM circuits and architectures in cooperation with your advisor and other members of the ML processor design team. Once the ideas are matured, we will proceed to a tape out of the circuit and test in our extensive lab. The target technology is 16 nm finFET CMOS.
