YOUR TASKS

  • Co-developing and writing an international grant application on the topic of the logistics of reusing building materials in Rome, from antiquity to the present day.
  • Teaching a seminar on the topic of the “logistics of reusing building materials in Rome, in Antiquity, the Renaissance, and the 20th C
  • Delivering lecture on Vitruvius’ De architectura and the classical origins of architectural theory.
  • Delivering lecture on ancient machinery for architectural students engaged in the reconstruction of similar constructions.
  • Providing expert advice on antique building materials reuse practices, their cultural and economic context, and possible lessons to be drawn for the present-day building sector.
  • Providing expert advice on the legacy of antique, medieval and Renaissance construction machinery and preparing research contribution on this material for publication in edited volume.

WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR

  • You hold a Master’s degree or a thesis-based doctorate in Engineering Sciences: Architecture, or Archaeology.
  • You have relevant experience in architectural historical research based on written and archaeological sources.
  • You have relevant experience in the material culture of Western architecture.
  • You have experience with the calculation of the cost and energy implications of large scale, historical building sites.
  • You have (theoretical and practical) expertise in the field of circular architecture and in particular the second-hand building materials.
  • You are interested in research that examines the interface between material culture, architectural history, history of building material production, sustainable building.
  • You are fluent in English, with notions of Italian, German and Dutch.

WHAT WE CAN OFFER YOU

  • We offer you a part-time (80%) contract of definite duration for a period of one year.
  • Your contract will start as soon as possible
  • Your remuneration will be determined by salary scale WM1 to WM4 (if you hold a Master’s degree) or salary scale PD1 to PD4 (if you hold a doctorate).  Click here for more information about our salary scales .
