The University of Applied Arts Vienna has an opening for the position of
University Professor (m/f/d)
for the central artistic subject (major)
„Digital Art“
in the study program „Media Art“
starting from October 3, 2023 for a fixed period of five years (By mutual agreement an extension of contract is possible.) The position is based at the Institute of Fine Arts and Media Arts.
The Digital Art Department focuses on the development of new fields of artistic practice through the use of digital technologies as a creative resource. Teaching and research aim to make full use of the possibilities offered by digital technologies such as artificial intelligence for the further development of artistic production and reception. In doing so, the linkage with other artistic methods is an essential instrument.
The professorship is to ensure, through professional competence and pedagogical commitment, that students in the central artistic subject "Digital Art" are supervised and supported in their artistic development, as well as contributing to the development of Digital Art through their own artistic research.
The individual sought to fill this position should therefore be an internationally successful artistic personality whose practical work has set standards and who has gained international attention and recognition with his or her digital, artistic works.
Expectations include
- active support or initiation of outreach activities of the department / university (exhibitions, events, cooperation projects with non-university partners) as well as interdisciplinary and international projects
- international contacts in the art and culture sector to support students and graduates in their studies and to build national and international networks
- didactic skills and enthusiasm in working with students (in the form of regular teaching and review sessions) as well as university teaching experience
- willingness to supervise students in the "PhD in Arts" program at the University of Applied Arts Vienna
- willingness to work with commitment on tasks in the area of university self-administration
- Leadership skills and the ability to work in a team, as well as willingness to work with an existing body of employees
German skills would be advantageous but are not required.
The monthly salary is based on the current Austrian “Collective Wage Agreement” which is € 5,437.70 paid 14 times annually. In accordance with “Collective Wage Agreement”, the salary may be higher dependent on previous work experience.
