University of Art and Design Linz invites applications for a full-time position as University Professor of “Strategic Industrial Design and Brand Development” at the Institute of Space and Design starting on 1 March 2023 according to Section 98 of the Austrian Universities Act (UG 2002). The monthly salary of €5,437.70 (before tax and deductions) is based on Section 49 (1) of the collective bargaining agreement. The position is open-ended and a higher salary is possible depending on the applicant's qualifications and experience.

University of Art and Design Linz is looking for someone for the Department of Industrial Design at the Institute of Space and Design with an educational background in industrial design or product design, who views strategic industrial design and brand development as a field for interdisciplinary teaching and research. The successful applicant must possess a high degree of artistic and pedagogical skill and professional experience in industrial design and have research aspirations in the following fields: industrial design strategies, innovation development as part of the design process, and branding and corporate design strategies in the context of industrial design. We are looking for someone who can strengthen the existing ties to research and industry and enhance and refine the profile of the programme according to the highest artistic standards.

Essential Qualifications:

    • Degree in industrial design or product design
    • Several years of professional experience in industrial design and leading design teams
    • Several years of work experience in developing branding and corporate design strategies in the context of industrial design
    • Several years of experience in teaching industrial design at the university level and supervising bachelor and master theses as well as student projects
    • Experience in supervising degree theses including PhDs as well as research in the fields of strategic industrial design, innovation development in the design process, and branding and corporate design strategies and perception theory in the context of industrial design
    • Outstanding artistic work or subject-related achievements in practice
    • Gender and diversity competence
    • Connections to international networks in research and industry
    • Experience in cooperating with industry and research institutions
    • Experience and involvement in acquiring third-party funds and research funds
    • Leadership, organisational, and administrative skills
    • Excellent German and English skills

Desired Qualifications:

    • Willingness to participate and experience in working with university committees
    • Participation in interdisciplinary projects as well as the further development of the programme
    • Ability to work in a team and good social skills
    • Motivating and supportive manner with students
