Workplace:

The Department of English and American Studies hosts research and teaching in the areas of literary and cultural studies, as well as linguistics, ELT/TESOL and English language. The department employs more than eighty staff and presently around 2500 students are enrolled in its Bachelor, Masters, Diploma, PhD and Teacher Education programmes. Your future workplace will be in the area of English Language Teaching and Learning Research / Subject Didactics of English (team of Univ.-Prof. Dr Hüttner).

Your responsibilities:

You will be actively involved in research, teaching, and administration, meaning:

  • Collaboration in research, administration, and teaching in the field of English language learning and teaching research
  • Participation in research projects/ studies and in their development
  • Contribution to publications /research  articles/presentations/teacher professional development activities
  • Conclusion of a formal PhD agreement within 12 months
  • Participation in and independent delivery of courses to the extent stipulated by the collective agreement
    Student advising/supervision
  • Assistance with organizing symposia, conferences, and teacher professional development events
  • Participation in departmental, teaching, and research 

Your Profile:

  • Completed Magister, MEd, or MA degree in teacher education for the subject English, or a comparable degree
  • Strong written and oral communication skills
  • Excellent English proficiency, spoken and written
  • IT user skills (computer literacy)
  • Ability to work in a team

Desirable: 

  • Good knowledge and solid understanding of language learning and teaching research with a focus on English as a target language
  • Willingness to design and carry out a PhD project in the areas of academic literacies or bilingual disciplinary literacies from a language educational or educational linguistics perspective
  • Experience with, or willingness to use, empirical methods of classroom research
  • Teaching experience
  • Experience with online and digitally supported learning
  • Knowledge of the processes and structures of the Austrian school system
  • Knowledge of university processes and structures
  • Solid German proficiency or a willingness to acquire German
