University Assistant (prae doc)
at  the Department of English and American Studies

Research and teaching at the Department of English and American Studies cover teacher education, literary and cultural studies as well as linguistics. The department employs more than sixty members. Presently almost 4000 students are enrolled in its Bachelor, Master, PhD and Teacher Education programmes. We are looking for a motivated candidate to expand the team in Anglophone Cultural and Literary Studies as a university assistant (pre doc) with a particular research focus in Literary, Cultural and Media Studies.
The Anglophone Cultural and Literary Studies team has a strong research focus on the field of Medical Humanities. Connecting to this general research area would be welcomed, but is not obligatory. Furthermore, contribution to the interdisciplinary cluster project "Post-COVID-19 Care”" is intended.
The employment relationship is initially limited to 1.5 years and is automatically extended to a total of 3 years, unless the employer submits a declaration of non-renewal after a maximum of 12 months.

Extent of Employment: 30 hours/week
Job grading in accordance with collective bargaining agreement : §48 VwGr. B1 Grundstufe (praedoc) with relevant work experience determining the assignment to a particular salary grade.
Job Description:
Your duties will involve:
- Participation in research, teaching and administration:
- Participation in various projects, among them, the aforementioned cluster project
- Contribution to publications / academic articles / presentations

- Participation in teaching and independent teaching of courses as defined by the collective agreement
- Supervision of students
- Involvement in the organisation of meetings, conferences, symposiums
- Involvement in the department and project administration as well as in teaching and research administration


Profile:
- Completed MA-education (or equivalent) in cultural or media studies/English studies, with a particular research interest in the digital, social media and/or medical humanities
- Theoretical and methodological competences in Digital Humanities and/or British Cultural and Media Studies
- High ability to express yourself both orally and in writing
- Excellent command of written and spoken English
- IT user skills (MS Office, WordPress, Social Media)
- Reliability, accountability, commitment, diligence and ability to work in a team


- International (research) experience
- Previous publications
- Teaching experience / experience with e-learning
- Familiarity in the use of (social) media
- Knowledge of university processes and structures
The candidate's research project should be concerned with internet cultures, i.e. digital/online practices and communities; applicants should have solid theoretical and methodological competence in these as well as relevant neighbouring areas of research.
