Your personal sphere of influence:

We are seeking a pre-doctoral scientist in the field of geoecology to strengthen research and teaching on the ecological functioning of wetlands. This includes the contributing to the group’s research profile and to research on soil formation in wetland habitats.

Your future tasks:

You will actively participate in research, teaching, and administration, which means:

  • While your primary focus will be on research, your work will also include teaching and administrative duties.
  • Writing a dissertation on soil formation in wetlands (e.g., the reed beds of Lake Neusiedl)
  • Publishing articles in high-impact international journals and presenting at international conferences
  • Independent teaching in accordance with the collective bargaining agreement
  • Participation in the activities of the research group and the department
  • Contributing to the preparation of research projects and the acquisition of external funding.
  • Participating in scientific studies, publication projects, and presentations.
  • You will become an active member of the “Vienna International School of Earth and Space Sciences” (VISESS) doctoral school.

This is part of your personality:

We are seeking a candidate with an MSc / diploma in a natural science discipline and expertise in a relevant research area such as physical geography, geoecology, or soil science, who will complement the existing strengths of the geoecology group. The successful candidate will have

  • Proven knowledge of soil science, fire ecology, and reed ecology
  • Proven knowledge of data analysis and programming (R applications or comparable programming languages)
  • Proven ability to publish articles in scientific journals
  • Determination and commitment to scientific excellence
  • Willingness and ability to drive to field sites (possession of an appropriate driving licence) and when necessary, to work long hours on-site even under adverse conditions
  • Fluency in English and German
