The advertised position is located in the Department of Education in the section "Empirical Education Research" of Univ. Prof. Dr. Judith Schoonenboom.
The Department's main responsibilities lie within the area of teaching and research in the field of Education. The research is centered on the description, critical analysis, and scientific explanation of phenomena of education. Your subject area will include the education and training processes in specially created social institutions (such as schools), as well as the educational and socialization processes in non-pedagogically institutionalized fields of social life (peer groups, milieus, media, etc.). The Department of Education is part of the Faculty of Philosophy and Education.


Your future tasks:
You will study the methodology of complex multmethod and mixed methods research in educational settings. Your active participation in research, teaching and administration comprises:
  • Mixed methods researchs
  • Publications in English Web of Science journals
  • International publications and presentations
  • Project applications and the acqisition of third-party funding
  • Preparing / writing a (publication-ready) cumulative habilitation thesis
  • Independent teaching of courses as defined by the collective bargaining agreement
  • Assistance in the supervision of exams and master's theses
  • Participation in the organization of workshops and conferences
  • Involvement in the department administration as well as in teaching and research administration

This is part of your personality:


  • Doctoral degree/PhD degree (in education or social sciences) with a focus on the methodology of empirical education or social science research
  • Publications on relevant methodological topics in English Web of Science journals
  • Good command of both quantitative and qualitative social science research methods
  • Demonstrable experience in mixed methods research
  • Interest in the theoretical and philosophical aspect  of mixed methods research
  • Excellent command of written and spoken German and English

In addition, we expect the successful candidate to have:

  • Teaching experience at universities
  • Experience in the acquisition of third-party funded research projects
  • Experience with international cooperations and networks

Desirable qualifications are:

  • Knowledge of university processes and structures
  • Experience abroad
  • Experience of supervising students
