The Faculty of Psychology at the University of Vienna comprises, beside the Dean’s office and the StudyServiceCenter, four Departments and the Outpatient Unit for Research, Teaching, and Practice.

We offer a position for a university assistant (post doc) at the Research group of Clinical Psychology of Adulthood (directed by Professor Urs Nater) at the Department of Clinical and Health Psychology. The research group runs the “Music & Health Lab”, which conducts research that seeks to examine the biopsychosocial underpinnings of the potentially beneficial effects of music on mind and body. One methodological focus is based on experimental and ambulatory assessment research. We offer excellent working conditions (including a biochemical laboratory and a psychophysiological laboratory with modern technical equipment) as well as international collaborations and intensive support for young researchers. Your future tasks:

Active participation in research, teaching & administration, which means:

  • You develop and strengthen a research profile in the field of music and health.
  • You contribute to research projects and research studies.
  • You publish internationally.
  • You present at national and international conferences and meetings.
  • You apply for projects and raise third-party funds.
  • You prepare and complete a publication-ready habilitation.
  • You hold courses independently within the scope of the provisions of the collective bargaining agreement.
  • You supervise your students.
  • You participate in evaluation measures and quality assurance.
  • You are involved in the department administration as well as in teaching and research administration.


This is part of your personality:


  • Completed doctoral degree/ PhD studies in subject psychology, or a related field.
  • Outstanding dissertation.
  • Experimental research skills.
  • Experience in research on stress.
  • Experience with biological methods (e.g. hormone measurement).
  • High ability to express yourself both orally and in writing.
  • Excellent command of written and spoken English.
  • Research competence and initiative proven through international publications in peer-relevant media.
  • Experience in research management and in leading project staff.
  • Accurate, self-reliant working.
  • Leadership and team competencies.
  • Team player and high social/communicative skills
  • Distinct management skills.
  • Ability to work in interdisciplinary cooperation.
  • High sense of responsibility.

Desirable qualifications are:

  • Teaching experience / experience of working with e-learning.
  • Experience in student supervision (Bachelor/ Master’s theses).
  • Experience in conducting behavioral experiments (e.g. online studies, lab experiments or Ecological Momentary Assessment studies).
  • Experience in presenting at international or national conferences.
  • Good command of written and spoken German.
  • Knowledge of university processes and structures.
  • Experience abroad.
  • Experience in music-related research.
  • High interest in clinical and biological psychology research.
