Reference number : 13704
The Department of Mineralogy and Crystallography invites applications for a university assistant (post doc) in the Crystallography Group with a contract period of 6 years. The group conducts experimental research on crystallography under nonambient and extreme conditions, with a current focus on structural high-pressure transformations in crystals, stability of dense planetary materials, carbonates and oxide materials under extreme conditions, and pressure effects on thermochemical energy-storage materials.
We are looking for an excellent scientist with a high potential of independent creative research in the field of experimental crystallography. The applicants research interest preferably include in-situ X-ray crystallography applied to single-crystal and powder diffraction at nonambient or extreme conditions, including activities on dedicated large-scale facilities (synchrotron).
The position includes independent teaching in particular in the fields of structural crystallography and X-ray crystallography.
Duration of employment: 6 year/s

Extent of Employment: 40 hours/week
Job grading in accordance with collective bargaining agreement : §48 VwGr. B1 lit. b (postdoc) with relevant work experience determining the assignment to a particular salary grade.

- Development of research ideas related to experimental crystallography of materials under extreme conditions (high pressure and/or high/low temperature)
- Maintenance and development of X-ray diffraction laboratory instrumentation and equipment related to in-situ single-crystal diffraction
- Instruction of users for in-situ experiment at in-house laboratory instruments
- Acquisition of research funding and synchrotron beamtime at dedicated large-scale facilities
- Publication in peer-reviewed journals and presentation at international conferences
- Independent teaching of courses as defined by the collective agreement; in particular in the fields of structural crystallography / chemical crystallography and X-ray crystallography / X-ray diffraction techniques / crystal structure determination
