Offer Description

The Department of Art History and Art Theory (Head: Prof. Dr Anne von der Heiden), within the Institute of Fine Arts and Cultural Studies, invites applications for the position of University Assistant (75% employment, fixed-term for six years), commencing on 1 September 2026.

 

In accordance with Section 49 (3) of the collective bargaining agreement, the University of Arts Linz pays university assistants a minimum monthly salary of €2,832.07 (before tax and deductions) – 14 times per year.

 

Areas of responsibility:

 

  • Participate in teaching and research in the fields of art history and art theory
  • Support the development of the department's teaching and research projects
  • Contribute to publications, conferences, and exhibitions
  • Conduct independent academic research
  • Teach independently
  • Undertake organisational and administrative duties

 

Essential qualifications:

 

  • Degree in art, cultural studies, or media and cultural studies or a degree in a related field (master’s/diploma)
  • Doctoral research proposal (Exposé)
  • Knowledge of issues in art theory and image politics, with a focus on contemporary art
  • An interest in writing practices at the intersection of art and scholarship
  • Openness to and curiosity about interdisciplinary approaches to research and teaching
  • Willingness to engage with students' projects and artistic work
  • Experience in copy-editing and editing academic texts
  • Experience in organisational and administrative tasks
  • Ability to work independently and conscientiously
  • Excellent German and English skills
  • Gender and diversity competence as well as the willingness to promote participation and diversity through teaching, research, and work on committees
