Offer Description

The tenure track professorship broadens and deepens the range of research and teaching in archaeology with regard to the development and application of digital methods at all levels of research, but within the subject with a special focus on Late Antiquity and the Middle Ages. A particular focus, in accordance with the faculty's research field, is on the entire Mediterranean area and – across epochs – on the upper Danube-Alps-Adriatic region. Applicants are expected to have a broad research spectrum and the ability to work in comparative modelling and theory-driven analysis; in addition, the expertise, research-oriented application and teaching of digital documentation and analysis tools. Active participation in the transdisciplinary and inter-university doctoral programme “Ancient Cultures of the Mediterranean Area” is also expected. Within the Faculty of Humanities, the professorship should focus on the holistic delineation of the culture and history of the Mediterranean area and Europe from its beginnings to the present and in the Field of Excellence "Dimensions of Europe". We also expect gender mainstreaming skills.

Employment requirements:
  • Austrian or equivalent foreign higher education degree corresponding with the position (doctorate/PhD) in the field of archaeology
  • Outstanding academic qualifications in research and teaching in the relevant discipline for the requirements and the profile of the professorship (commensurate with stage of academic career)
  • Several years of experience as post-doc or in a similar position
  • Skills in attracting subject-specific project grants
  • Skills in higher education didactics and online teaching
  • Gender mainstreaming skills
  • Professional experience abroad during academic career
  • Excellent knowledge of German and English
  • International experience in presenting papers and delivering lectures
  • Successfully attracting international third-party funds (in particular ERC grants)
  • International publications

Additional Information
Benefits

The minimum remuneration as stated in the Collective Bargaining Agreement is EUR 66532.20 gross per year or EUR 78338.40 gross per year with qualificational agreement with conclusion of the Qualification Agreement.
