Your personal sphere of influence:
As a Social Scientist with a focus on GIS, cartography and mixed methods (praedoctoral or postdoctoral position) in the InfraNorth project you will join the research team around Professor Peter Schweitzer. The project funded by the European Research Council explores how residents of the Arctic engage with transport infrastructures and their intended and unintended local consequences.The focus of research is the role of transport infrastructures in sustaining northern communities.
Our approach combines ethnographic fieldwork with mapping, future scenario workshops and archival research. Quantitative population data and a survey about the role of transport infrastructures are used to upscale our research from local communities to regional and pan-Arctic levels. In doing so, InfraNorth contributes locally informed results to critical conversations about Arctic futures.

Your future tasks:
You actively participate in the InfraNorth project. Your responsibilities will be:
- Coordinate the integration component of the project - together with the PI
- Conduct and publish research
- Assist ethnographers in pre- and post fieldwork tasks
- Contribute to the overall project
- Participate in research meetings, workshops and conferences
This is part of your personality:
- Completed Master's degree or PhD in geography, spatial planning or related discipline
- Interest and experience in
- GIS and digital cartography skills, including statistical analysis
- Quantitative research: conception, execution and analysis of questionnaires
- Experience in working in multidisplinary teams
- Excellent command of written and spoken English (C1)
- Web design skills (CMS) and good command of written and spoken German (B1) would be of advantage
