Your duties

  • Participation in research and teaching in the subject area of German Language (Variationist Linguistics and Sociolinguistics) as well as the assumption of administrative tasks (e.g. commission and committee activities)
  • Independent teaching activity as well as supervision of students
  • Support of the department in third-party funding applications and ongoing projects
  • Independent research activity in the field of variationist linguistics and/or sociolinguistics; evidence via publications
  • Strong publication activity as well as participation in and organisation of scientific conferences

Your Profile
  • Degree in German studies as well as a doctorate in German linguistics completed with very good results, with a focus on variationist linguistics and/or sociolinguistics
  • Excellent knowledge of quantitative empirical research methods in linguistics (e.g. bivariate and multivariate analyses, probabilistic methods); evidence via publications and teaching
  • Detailed knowledge of the history of the German language as well as deep knowledge of language change and variation in German; evidence via publications and teaching
  • Excellent knowledge of the grammar of German, both in the area of contemporary grammar as well as in the older language periods; evidence via publications and teaching
  • Detailed knowledge of phonetics and phonology; evidence via publications and teaching
  • Experience in dealing with large corpora and corpus linguistic analyses; evidence of this can be found in publications and lecturing activities as well as participation in relevant projects
  • Independent teaching experience (including online-teaching) and didactic competence
  • International publication activity (quality-assured and peer-reviewed)
  • Excellent international networking; can be demonstrated through functions and memberships in relevant associations, societies and federations
  • Excellent knowledge of written and spoken German and English; evidence via international publications and lecturing activities
  • Communicational, organisational and teamwork abilities 
  • Independent and self-responsible way of working

Benefits

The minimum salary as stated in the collective agreement and according to the classification scheme is EUR 4.061,50 gross/month (for full-time employment). This minimum salary may be higher due to previous employment periods eligible for inclusion and other earnings and remunerations.
