Offer Description

The Medical University of Vienna (MedUni Vienna) with more than 6.000 employees and about 8.000 students is one of the largest academic medical schools in the EU area. At the Department of Ophthalmology and Optometry of the MedUni Vienna and the University Hospital Vienna a Full Professorship Position for Ophthalmology according to §98 university act 2002 is available, starting April 1st 2025. We offer permanent employment according to the Austrian Employees act. The successful applicant will be head of the Department of Ophthalmology and Optometry.

Skills/Qualifications

Employment requirements:

  • Graduation in medicine with a subject specific doctorate or an equivalent foreign university degree
  • Qualification as a specialist for ophthalmology and optometry or equivalent domestic and foreign authority
  • Outstanding scientific qualification in the field of ophthalmology
  • Profound clinical qualification in in the field of ophthalmology and optometry
  • Successful and continuous acquisition of competitive third-party funds
  • Leadership and management experience, including gender and diversity competence, and with qualification to manage a hospital department of the highest level of care
  • Experience in interdisciplinary cooperation in clinic and research
  • Educational and didactic qualification (evaluation results regarding teaching activities)
  • International work experience

Specific Requirements

Expected from the applicant:

  • Interdisciplinary and multidisciplinary research in terms of promoting the research clusters described in the University`s development plan
  • Close cooperation with clinics of the University Hospital Vienna
  • Representation of the subject area in the medical curriculum aimed at integrative and practice oriented training
  • Competence in employee leadership and motivation
  • Continuation and optimization of the clinical services and procedures in cooperation with other disciplines and clinics as well as the management of the University Hospital Vienna
  • Commitment to quality orientation and willingness to continuously enhance personal management skills
