Teaching

As our new Full-Professor, you will be participating in teaching in the Bachelor’s and Master’s programmes in Psychology in the domains relevant to Neuroscience. The courses include extensive lectures, smaller seminars, and individual supervision of research internships and thesis projects, as well as general coordination and administrative tasks.

Research

In Neuroscience at SFU, the research neuronal structures serves as a window through which psychological phenomena are identified and analysed in terms of its complex interplay with societal and historical conditions. The ideal candidates demonstrates experience in conducting research on neural and synaptic plasticity, either on human subjects or animal models. We value individuals with a track record of designing and executing innovative experiments in this area, utilising sophisticated methodologies to ensure findings have real-world relevance and impact.

The core tasks include:

  • Representation of the subject in research and teaching
  • Promoting young academics and supervising theses on all levels (bachelor, master, PhD)
  • Implementation of basic and specified lectures in the bachelor’s and master’s programmes of psychology as well as participation in the doctoral program (PhD Psychology)
  • Participation in university management
  • Developing research strategies and spearheading future research projects at the Milan department within the Faculty of Psychology
  • nitiating and contributing to the acquisition of significant external research funding to further enrich the research profile at the Milan department within the Faculty of Psychology

Specific Requirements:

  • MSc in Neuroscience or Psychology
  • PhD title in Physiology or Neurobiology
  • Excellent research qualification in the field of neuroscience conducted on both human and animal models proven by internationally competitive research and publication performance, specifically on the topics of field of neural and synaptic plasticity on human or animal model, as well as psychiatric disorders, psychotherapy and neuroscience on human or animal models
  • Relevant experience in university teaching and highly significant expertise in the field of neuroscience
  • Clinical experience in the field of psychiatry or psychotherapy treatments
  • Leadership skills, communication skills and excellent teamwork skills
  • A clear vision on future developments in the respective fields of research
  • An extensive national and international academic network
  • Fluent written and spoken knowledge of the Italian language, English skills additionally required

It is required that the future full-professor will move their work centre to Milan, Italy (including a close work relation with the Faculty of Psychology in Vienna).
