Scientific Profile

We are seeking a candidate with an international profile and an outstanding academic track record who will develop an excellent research programme in the field of Chemical and Process Systems Engineering, driving forward computer-aided and experimental approaches to the modelling, simulation, analysis and optimisation of sustainable process engineering processes, incorporating digitalisation, artificial intelligence and data-driven methods.

The successful candidate is also expected to contribute actively to research-led teaching at Bachelor’s, Master’s and PhD levels, as well as to participate actively in cross-faculty and cross-university collaborations within TU Graz, NAWI Graz and regional research networks.

Key areas of the professorship:

The focus is on model-based approaches, but also encompasses experimentally supported work and the targeted use of AI for all fundamental operations in process engineering.

Potential research priorities:

  • Development of optimisation methods for process design, with a focus on environmental protection, sustainable production and green engineering.
  • Supporting the faculty’s institutes in key research areas, particularly in the fields of process engineering, chemical engineering and environmental technology, sustainable production in electrochemistry, thermal process engineering and reaction engineering.

Available Infrastructure:

  • Pilot plant (Central Lab Biobased Products) with various separation columns
  • Roll-to-roll production of thin-film materials
  • Hydrogen, fuel cell and reaction engineering laboratory
  • Access to computing clusters at Graz University of Technology and at Austrian Scientific Computing (ASC)

Employment Requirements

  • A university education appropriate to the post, with a completed PhD.
  • Outstanding academic achievements in research and teaching, preferably demonstrated by a habilitation (venia docendi) or equivalent academic achievements.
  • Teaching skills enabling the effective delivery of courses at Bachelor’s, Master’s and doctoral levels, demonstrated by a habilitation or equivalent academic teaching qualifications.
  • Leadership skills (strategy, human resources and process development).

Selection Criteria

  • Demonstrable involvement in the international research community.
  • Experience in teaching at Bachelor’s, Master’s and doctoral levels.
  • Experience in securing and managing externally funded projects.
  • Relevant industry experience.
  • Ability to work as part of a team and willingness to collaborate both within and outside the university.
  • Knowledge of gender, diversity and inclusion.

Centre Of Vital Interest

Relocation of the future professor to the greater Graz area (main residence) is required.

Language Skills

Applicants should have a strong command of the English language, both written and spoken, to be able to effectively represent the field internationally, and they must also be willing to learn German if they do not already know the language.
