The University of Klagenfurt is pleased to announce the following open position at the Department of Educational Science, Faculty of Arts, Humanities & Education, in compliance with the provisions of § 98 (permanent) or § 99 (five years) of the Austrian Universities Act:

Professor of Social Pedagogy

This is a full-time contract with an expected starting date of 1 November 2024. The decision on either § 98 (unlimited term) or § 99 (five years fixed term) will be made in the course of the selection and appointment procedure.

Social Pedagogy is anchored within the Research Unit “Social Pedagogy and Inclusion Research” as part of the Department of Educational Science and has its own distinct study and research profile. The aim is to continue the development of this field in close collaboration with the department’s other research areas. We are particularly keen to hear from applicants who represent the breadth of the subject of Social Pedagogy in their research and teaching, and who are able to promote the subject through networking activities at international, national and regional level within the scientific community and in professional practice.

The duties of the position include:

  • Representation of the field of Social Pedagogy in research and teaching
  • Teaching, examination, guidance and supervision activities in the department’s degree programmes at Bachelor, Master and doctoral level  
  • Development and qualification of early career researchers
  • Competitive research grant acquisition, implementation and management
  • Helping to shape the long-term development of the department and its positioning in the national and international scientific community as well as the university’s Third Mission activities
  • Participation in university management

Skills/Qualifications

Required qualifications:

  • Habilitation or equivalent qualification in a relevant field  
  • Doctorate in Educational Science or Pedagogy or Educational Science or doctorate related to Educational Science or Pedagogy or Educational Science  
  • Research and publication achievements in the field of Social Pedagogy with international visibility and thematic relevance
  • In-depth knowledge of social-pedagogical, educational and social science theories and empirical research methods
  • Proven university teaching record and expertise in higher education didactics  
  • Leadership skills and ability to work in a team
  • Ability to teach courses in German and English

 


Specific Requirements

Preferred qualifications:

  • Profound knowledge of regional, national and international social service systems and social-pedagogical fields of practice
  • Experience in national, international and interdisciplinary research cooperation
  • Experience in the acquisition, implementation, and management of third-party funded research projects
  • Experience in mentoring and supporting students and early career researchers
  • Experience in networking within the non-university social landscape
  • Experience in university management
  • Competence in gender mainstreaming and diversity management
