Offer Description

The Department of Forest- and Soil Sciences, Institute of Forest Engineering is currently seeking a Postgraduate Research Associate.

Extent of employment:         30 hours per week
Duration of employment:      limited for 4 years

Workplace: 1190 Vienna & Tulln

Gross monthly salary and pay grade in terms of collective agreement for university staff (payable 14 times per year) B1, € 2.684,10

Responsibilities:

  • Independent implementation of experiments with the application of machine learning and artificial intelligence to problems in agriculture and forestry 
  • The focus of the research activities is on the field of "Digital Transformation for Smart Farm and Forest Operations"
  • Publication and lecturing activities 
  • Writing a dissertation (cumulative) is desired
  • Participation in the teaching, research and administrative operations of the institute

Required skills and qualifications:

  • Diploma degree in computer science or equivalent qualification
  • Very good programming skills in Python
  • In-depth knowledge in the field of machine learning and artificial intelligence (proof of courses attended)

Desired skills and qualifications:

  • Interest in scientific work in the application and further development of AI technologies on smart farm and forest operations
  • Practical experience in machine learning and AI methods
  • Practical experience in sensor technologies and robotics
  • Didactic skills
  • Very good language skills in German and English 
  • Ability to work in a team and communicate     
  • Very good knowledge of Python
