The Institute of Social Anthropology (ISA ) of the Austrian Academy of Sciences (OeAW ), Austria’s leading non-university research and science institution, is offering a

 

Postdoc Position (f/m/x)

in social anthropology

(full-time, 40h per week)

 


 


 

for a duration of 24 months, starting September 01st , 2024. The successful candidates will contribute the new working group in Environmental Anthropology, led by Judith Bovensiepen. Applicants are invited to submit a proposal for their own independent research project on the theme of ‘Environment, health and well-being’. The regional focus should be on island Southeast Asia, with special preference being given to research projects based in Timor-Leste.

 

 

Your tasks:

·         Design and implement your own independent research project.

·         Critical engagement with relevant theoretical frameworks within anthropology and beyond. 

·         Publication of findings in leading journals.

·         Co-organisation of an international conference. 

·         Participation in all compulsory institute events and activities.

·         Responsible participation in the scientific organisation and some administrative responsibilities.  

·         Contribution to outreach activities, e.g. through media or the production of a podcast.

 

Your profile:

The successful candidate should have a PhD in Social or Cultural Anthropology or a closely related field. They should have excellent written and verbal communication skills in English and experience in organizing and coordinating scientific events. The successful candidate should have extensive fieldwork experiences, the ability to design and implement their own research project, and an excellent or promising publication record.
