The Johann Radon Institute for Computational and Applied Mathematics (RICAM ) of the Austrian Academy of Sciences (OeAW ), Austria’s leading non-university research and science institution in Applied Mathematics, focuses on basic research in applied mathematics, and within the Institute mathematicians from all around the globe collaborate on common core areas in mathematical modeling, simulation, inverse problems and optimization. Postdoc Position (f/m/x)

in the Transfer Group

(full-time, 40h per week)

 

The position is available for a duration of three years with the possibility of an extension, from May 1st , 2024 onwards. Place of employment is Linz. The working languages are English and German.

 

The hired person will work on the development and implementation of numerical algorithms for Adaptive Optics Systems for astronomical telescopes, with a focus on wavefront sensing, atmospheric tomography, and point spread function reconstruction. An involvement in the development of the instruments METIS and MICADO for the European Extremely Large Telescope is expected. Your profile:

•    PhD or Master in applied mathematics.

•    Strong background in numerical mathematics, in particular on simulation and inverse problems.

•    Background in the development of algorithms for Adaptive Optics.

•    Experience in (post-)processing Adaptive Optics telemetry data, in particular for point spread function reconstruction.

•    English skills needed.
