One vacant position for a full-time University Assistant (m/f/d) in the Department Materials Science, at the Chair of Physical Metallurgy and Metallic Materials, starting as soon as possible in a fixed-term to 4 years of employment.

Salary Group B1 according to the Uni-KV, monthly minimum salary excl. Szlg.: € 3.058,60 for 40 hours per week (14 x per year), actual classification is according to previous relevant experience.

Within the Department of Materials Science, research is done at the highest international level to achieve a profound understanding of the structure and properties of materials and materials systems. We are a young team that has specialized in the field of microstructural and high-resolution characterization of metallic materials and we would like to strengthen our scientific team.

Tasks:

Research and teaching assistance in the field of metallic structural materials. Work on a PhD thesis aiming to understand the effect of interfacial structure and chemistry on mechanical properties of modern metallic structural materials (as nickel base alloys, steels). Development of (micro)mechanical setups for this purpose. High resolution chemical and structural characterization of interface for correlation of microstructure with mechanical properties.

Requirements:

Master/Diploma degree in Materials Science with a focus on Physical Metallurgy & Materials Testing or in an equivalent field of studies such as Materials Physics, Physics, or Chemistry. Excellent command of the German and English language – both spoken and written.

Additional Qualifications:

Experience in the fields of interfaces and plasticity of metallic materials. Mechanical testing of metallic materials at macroscopic or microscopic scale. Experience in high resolution material characterization (SEM, TEM, APT). Loyalty, reliability, ability to work in a team, effective communication skills, self-organized and target-oriented way of working, ability for scientific publication.
