Graduate Teaching Assistant (must hold a Diploma/Master's degree) for a Full-time, four-year position at the Department of Pathophysiology

A newly established research group within the department of pathophysiology is looking for a highly motivated PhD student. The group focuses on the development of New Approach Methodologies (NAMs) using cell and tissue culture systems to reduce the need for animal testing and basic and applied medical research. The initial focus will be on cardiac research but expansion to additional tissues and systems is planned within a year. The group is still in the startup phase and looking for a talented person to support the team. Bringing in own ideas and interests is welcomed.
Job Duties:
- Independent planning, performance and evaluation of experiments within a given project on the topic of "non animal models"
- Performing cell culture experiments and maintaining routine cell cultures
- Establishment of innovative cell culture and analytical protocols, particularly in the area of 3D cell cultures, co-cultures and microfluidic systems
- Innovative combination of technology and biology (e.g. biosensors, 3D bio-printing, organ-on-a-chip systems)
- Support of smooth laboratory operation: tidiness and organization, maintenance of material supplies, coordiation within the team and with other work groups, diligent use of research equipment
- Participation in documentation and reporting of research results (data processing and presentation, internal and external reports, protocols, scientific publications)
- Documentation for quality assurance
- Support with writing of research grant proposals
- Presentation of research results (e.g. posters, oral presentations)
- Support in university teaching
- Training and guidance of new team members
Your Qualifications:
- The successful candidate must hold a degree in a scientific master or diploma study (medicine, biotechnology, medical science etc) or similar qualification
- Well-versed in cell culture methods (experience with stem cells and differentiation preferred) or alternatively special skills in biosensors or microfluidic systems
- Knowledge in basic techniques of molecular biology, biochemistry and tissue analysis: e.g. fluorescence microscopy, flow cytometry, metabolic analysis, biosensors
- Special knowledge in one or more of the following topics preferred: 3D cell culture, co-cultures, microfluidics, biosensors, ion channels, metabolic diseases (e.g. diabetes), immunology
- Knowledge of electronic data processing; knowledge in computer aided design preferred
- Communication skills in German and English for interaction an an international work environment (CEFR level English at least B2; in case German skill level is below B2, English needs to be on level C1 or higher)
- High social and team competence
- Outstanding motivation to learn new skills and technologies
- Interdisciplinary communications skills (medicine, biology, technology, computer science etc)
- Very high degree of diligence and reliability
- Intrinsic motivation, commitment, flexibility and endurance
