One vacant position for full-time University Assistant at the Chair of Physical Metallurgy and Metallic Materials in the Department Material Sciences beginning as soon as possible, on a temporary employment contract lasting 3 years.

Master in Materials Science, Physics, Chemistry or an equivalent field of studies. Fluency in German and English language (spoken and written), self-motivation, loyalty and teamwork, ability for independent work and scientific publication.

Additional Qualification: Knowledge in the field of materials modeling of nanostructured materials and various material defects, with a special focus on applying density functional theory (DFT), molecular dynamics (MD) and Monte Carlo (MC). Excellent programming skills in particular using Python, experience with Linux/Unix systems as well as compiling codes at high-performance computer clusters.

The project aims on quantum-mechanical and atomistic description of interactions between carbon nanostructures functionalized with metallic catalysts and/or organic functional groups to enhance a capacity for hydrogen adsorption and storage. Special focus will be paid to the impact of local structural/binding motifs and defects, with the ultimate goal to upscale the modelling methods for large-scale nanoporous simulations.
