Full Professorship in Economic, Social and Environmental History

The Department of History is one of the largest departments at the University of Salzburg. The professorship in economic, social and environmental history is responsible for a broadly conceived discipline with different methodological and theoretical approaches. Formal criterion for the application is a habilitation (venia docendi or equivalent) in the field of economic, social and environmental history or in a discipline relevant to this area of research. Candidates are expected to represent the field of economic, social and environmental history in research and teaching across epochs and in its different dimensions and international contexts. They are expected to be open to a range of methodological approaches and perspectives and to the integration of Digital Humanities into research and teaching. They should also be prepared to offer historical perspectives on current economic, social and environmental issues in public discussions and media discourse. Of special importance is the thematic field of sustainability. Therefore, an important prerequisite is the willingness to foster, both within and outside the University of Salzburg, interdisciplinary cooperation with other academic disciplines studying issues of sustainability and resources, as well as the long-term transformations of society and economy. Candidates should be willing to contribute to the development of transdisciplinary co-operation and joint courses at the University of Salzburg.

With regard to research, candidates are expected to display an innovative research output and to be willing to apply for external funds, above all for the advancement of young researchers. They should also possess the capacity to organize and direct interdisciplinary and transdisciplinary research projects at the intersection with other core areas of the department, including the didactics of history and politics. A firm commitment to academic administration is considered to be an essential part of active involvement in a collegial work-place.
