Global food security is one of the key challenges of this century with a dramatic increase of the current human population and the ongoing climate change affecting crop quality and yield. Especially drought poses a threat to the yield of wheat production, and breeding aims at creating more drought-tolerant varieties. To support breeder, the project WheatVIZ aims at accelerating the breeding process via cutting-edge genomics and UAV-based phenotyping by integrating explainable AI. Throughout this internship, you will closely work with our experts and will support the data collection campaign on the field site in Obersiebenbrunn and will be responsible for their subsequent analysis. Thus, one key aspect of this internship will be data science and bioinformatics.
