Job profile:

University Assistant - Career position (40 hours/week), Institute of Biochemistry from 15.03.2023 for 6 years, with possibility for a qualification agreement.
Main Duties:

  • Research in the area of nutrient and hormone regulated gene expression in the context of metabolic disorders and their molecular mechanisms
  • Research and teaching focusing on gene regulation in relevant disease models
  • Metabolism and physiology-oriented research projects using animal models, animal surrogates (e.g., organoids, PDOs, tissue samples), and cell culture
  • Management and coordination of the animal model and organoid unit at the Institute of Biochemistry
  • Develop and conduct research-oriented teaching (main biochemistry lectures and practical courses)
  • Supervision of students (BSc, MSc, PhD)
  • Independent acquisition of third-party funds
  • Participation in organizational and administrative tasks

Required qualifications:

  • Completed doctoral studies in natural sciences (PhD or Dr.rer.nat.)
  • Several years of experience in the field of gene expression, metabolism, physiology and biochemistry, evidenced by scientific publications incl. first author publications
  • Investigation of transcription factors and epigenetic marks, including experimental design and bioinformatic processing of genomic and transcriptomic data according to FAIR principles
  • Experience in animal experimentation as well as organoid generation
  • Experience in metabolic regulation via transcriptional networks.
  • Design and production of proteins in bacterial and human cell systems
  • Experience in the development and evaluation of FACS assays
  • Certificate to perform animal experiments is desired
  • Certificate to perform work with radioactivity is desired
  • Several years of relevant post-doctoral work and mobility experience (in non-German speaking countries)
  • Experience in successful acquisition of external funding
  • Experience in supervising BSc, MSc and PhD candidates
  • International visibility in the form of collaborations & peer-reviewed publications
  • Organizational ability and leadership skills
  • Teamwork and communication skills
  • German language skills of at least B2 level or willingness to acquire these skills within a reasonable period of time
  • The application must include a research statement/ plan and a teaching statement/plan that specifically address the expected achievements for a habilitation
