Responsibilities:

  • independent research on the level of Habilitation in the field of regional contemporary history with a spatial focus on the west Austrian federal states in a European context
  • application for third-party funding
  • visible publication and conference activities
  • participation in the Research Area “Cultural Encounters – Cultural Conflicts” and its Research Center for regional history, which is in the process of being founded
  • regular and innovative teaching (to the extent of 4 teaching hours per semester) in the historical programmes (at BA and MA level); (co-)supervision of student theses (BA, MA); successful completion of advanced training in university didactics
  • participation in academic organization and administration

Requirements:

  • completed doctorate (PhD) in the historical sciences from the field of contemporary history
  • the applicants must have acquired postdoctoral experience and merits beyond dissertation, documented in particular through internationally visible publications in recognised peer-reviewed journals and international conference activities (please highlight in the list of publications up to five important publications and include in your application at least one essay or book chapter in digital form)
  • evidence of expertise in regional history
  • expertise on the Nazi era and experience in third mission activities are desirable
  • description of an independent research proposal (on the level of „Habilitation“) in the field of regional contemporary history with a spatial focus on the west Austrian federal states in a European context (max. 5 pages)
  • several months of relevant professional experience after completion of PhD
  • relevant mobility experiences (during or after completion of PhD)
  • experience and participation in the field of third-party funding (acquisition, management)
  • experience in university teaching is highly desirable; applicants must submit a concept of teaching; German language skills on a level of C2 or the willingness to achieve that level within two years after start of employment
  • excellent communication skills and teamwork capabilities, organisational skills

Information on the position:In this position you will have the opportunity to carry out high level research and to specialise in a particular field. You will hold your own lectures, tutor students and participate in administration. During the first year of employment it is possible to conclude a 'qualification agreement' which is the core part of a University career position. If the terms of the qualification agreement are fullfilled it will lead to a continuous career at the University, resulting in the position of a Associate Professor and a permanent employment.
