Job profile:

In this position you will have the opportunity to carry out high level research and to specialize in the field of media dynamics and social change. You will hold your own lectures, tutor students and participate in administration. During the first year of employment it is possible to conclude a 'qualification agreement' which is the core part of a University career position. If the terms of the qualification agreement are fullfilled it will lead to a continuous career at the University, resulting in the position of an Associate Professor and a permanent employment.

Main tasks:
  • Conducting original research in the field of media dynamics and social change
  • International publications and lectures
  • Project proposals and acquisition of third-party funding
  • Collaboration in the research area "Economy, Politics and Society" (EPoS), in the interfaculty forum "Innsbruck Media Studies", in the doctoral program "Organizing the Digital" or in the doctoral program "Politics, Power, Language"
  • teaching of courses on media and communication theory as well as on media dynamics, social transformation and societal change in the media and communication studies programs of the Faculty of Social and Political Sciences and in thematically related programs of the University of Innsbruck in German and in English
  • supervising theses in the BA, MA, and PhD programs in the media and communication studies programs at the Faculty of Social and Political Sciences
  • Active participation in national and international networks in the field of media studies and communications (e.g. GfM, ÖGK, IAMCR, ICA)
  • contributing to academic administration

Required Qualifications:
  • PhD in media studies or communications
  • Continuous research activity in the field of media research in the thematic area of media dynamics and societal change, documented by publications in high-quality, relevant journals with double-blind review procedures (listing in DOAJ, media/rep/ or in the Web of Science) and, if applicable, monographs
  • Excellent knowledge of methods of media-related research
  • Relevant scholarly accomplishments beyond the dissertation/PhD
  • post-dissertation/PhD academic work experience
  • Experience in proposal writing and implementation of externally funded projects
  • Experience in post-graduate academic mobility
  • Teaching competence demonstrated through teaching evaluations
  • Social competence and capacity for teamwork
  • Excellent English language skills (including the commitment to be able to teach in German and English after five years at the latest)

The application must include a comprehensive research concept of up to five pages (planned research in the next six years) and a teaching concept (one syllabus each for a lecture and a seminar, including a description of didactic considerations). Furthermore, the names and contact details of at least two references are to be provided.
