Job Description:

Assistant Professor (full time, 6 years, with tenure-track option), Department of Political Science, starting on 1 March 2023. Main task:

  • Independent research on political science issues of European economic, monetary and fiscal policy, on pertinent questions of integration theory, European policy-making and coordination in the EU member states, as well as on interregional cooperation;
  • independent teaching of courses, holding of examinations and supervising of theses in the political science study programs of the Faculty of Social and Political Sciences;
  • active participation within the university’s research focus area Economy, Politics and Society (EPoS), the research platform Center Interdisciplinary Gender Studies Innsbruck and/or other research platforms and focuses of the University of Innsbruck;
  • active participation in national and international professional networks in the field of political science (e.g. ÖGPW, ECPR, EPSA);
  • activities within the framework of academic self-administration.

Required Qualifications

  • PhD in political science or related disciplines;
  • excellent knowledge of European economic, monetary and fiscal policy and member state European policy-making at the level of parliaments, governments or administrations, as well as political science research designs and methods, as evidenced by publications; ability to independently research integration-theoretical questions on the policy fields listed above; proven by publications in publication bodies with (double-blind) review procedures and listing in the Web of Science;
  • experience in the application for and the implementation of third-party-funded projects;
  • proven experience in policy-oriented research and consultancy;
  • relevant scientific achievements beyond the dissertation/PhD;
  • several months of relevant professional experience after the dissertation/PhD;
  • experience in post-graduate academic mobility;
  • teaching competence demonstrated through teaching evaluations;
  • social competence; advanced (C1) knowledge of English and German (or willingness to be able to teach in German after five years at the latest);
  • a comprehensive research and teaching concept must be enclosed with the application; the application must include the names and contact details of at least two referees

Tenure-Track model:

The vacant post offers a continuous scientific career up to an associate professor. A key component of this tenure track model is the so called "Qualifizierungsvereinbarung" (qualification agreement). Salary:

An initial salary of € 4.062 p.m.* shall be offered for this position. In the following, the conclusion of the qualification agreement will entitle to an increased salary of € 4.599,60 p.m.* and the fulfilment of the agreed qualification objectives will entitle to an increased salary of € 4.987,20 p.m.* . All mentioned salaries are monthly gross salaries, paid 14 times p.a.
