The Section of Small Animal Surgery is part of the University Clinic for Small Animals. The new full professor will head the clinical section and present Small Animal Surgery in research, teaching and continuing education as well as having overall responsibility for clinical services.

The successful candidate is expected to develop an independent research programme and to acquire third-party funding. He or she should mentor junior scientists in Small Animal Surgery and participate in doctoral programmes at the Vetmeduni.

The academic duties will include the coordination and teaching of courses in the veterinary curriculum with in-depth training in the field of Small Animal Surgery. A further focus will be on postgraduate education in the specialist area.

In the teaching hospital, the incumbent will participate in the clinical service of the Section for Small Animal Surgery, contribute to the professional development of the surgical team and train residents. The Small Animal Clinic is being newly built and the incumbent is expected to maintain and optimize the services and clinical processes in cooperation with other specialist departments and the university management.

In addition, the Professor of Small Animal Surgery will participate in university committees, national and international specialist bodies, will interact with alumni and will collaborate with practicing veterinarians.
