Why The Role Matters:

The Work Integrated Learning team supports the development of Faculty initiatives to support and strengthen student engagement programs in order to positively influence the student experience. This includes identifying, developing and implementing student development opportunities to enhance the student experience and ensure work-readiness. The Work Integrated Learning team is responsible for the placement and professional experience students complete as part of their course requirements.

The Work Integrated Learning (WIL) Administrator provides effective administrative support for all Work Integrated Learning courses in the Faculty. This role is a shared support role providing support to all staff and students relating to work placements in accordance with government and University procedures and requirements.

Accountabilities:

  • Arrange internships (via phone or email) for students in the faculty and provides support to other placement courses as needed.
  • Maintain, prepare and supply accurate and up to date information relating to placements for all stakeholders, industry bodies, host organisations, WIL Supervisors, UNSW staff members and WIL students. Make it matter.
  • Work closely with external stakeholders and other relevant agencies to identify and obtain suitable internship opportunities.
  • Develop and maintain positive partnerships with host organisations.
  • Respond to in-person, telephone and written enquiries and initiate appropriate action as required.
  • Works closely with Senior WIL Officer and Academic Course Convenor/s to assess and ensure quality internship opportunities.
  • Conduct pre-placement interviews with students as needed to assess student capability and readiness and match to a suitable host organisation.
  • Work closely with Academic Convenor/s and student services to manage the identification, monitoring and support of ‘at risk’ students.
  • Liaise with appropriate stakeholders and contribute to the development, promotion, delivery and evaluation of relevant WIL programs.
  • Collaborate with the Senior WIL Officer (ADA) and Education Excellence Manager to develop and lead strategies for continuous improvement, implement and integrate solutions into relevant processes including changes to systems, policies and procedures.
  • Apply, interpret and advise on policies, systems, manuals, rules, procedures and guidelines, ensuring that compliance requirements in all areas of responsibility are met.

Skills and Experience: 

To be considered you will hold Australian Working Rights or Australian Citizenship. Visa sponsorship is not available for this appointment.

  • Relevant tertiary qualifications and relevant work experience and/or an equivalent level of knowledge gained through any other combination of education, training and/or experience.
  • Substantial experience working in a Customer Service environment with proven experience engaging with a diverse range of stakeholders whilst successfully developing and maintaining strong working relationships.
  • High level interpersonal and communication skills, and the ability to use tact and discretion when dealing with confidential matters.
  • Demonstrated attention to detail while consolidating information from different sources with the ability to manage competing deadlines.
  • Demonstrated experience in the use of computer software preferably InPlace, PeopleSoft, MS Word and Excel or willingness to undergo further training in these areas.
  • An understanding of and commitment to UNSW’s aims, objectives, and values in action, together with relevant policies and guidelines.
  • Knowledge of health and safety responsibilities and commitment to attending relevant health and safety training.
