  • Base salary range: Level 6: $83,005 – $87,723 p.a. plus 17% superannuation

About the team 

Student Life plays a key role in the shared strategic goal of a world-class student experience. Student Life manages all aspects of the current student support services including, wellbeing, equity and accessibility, medical centre, international student support, health promotion and student accommodation. All student administration services including School offices, scholarships, fees and graduations; academic support and student exchange/study abroad; student misconduct and discipline; and other engagement activities including equity outreach, all sport and recreation, career services, collegiate programs and student transition. The area works closely with the Student Guild, affiliated residential colleges and affiliated UWA sport clubs.

About the opportunity 

As the appointee you will, under general direction, be responsible for providing oversight and guidance to the Peer Supporters. You will deliver high-quality, confidential support to a diverse community of students to maximise student success. You will work closely with staff within Student Life and other areas of the University as appropriate. You will work in accordance with relevant legislation, and University policy and procedures.

To be considered for this role, you will demonstrate:

  • Relevant tertiary qualification or demonstrated equivalent competency
  • Current registration with an associated professional organisation such as the Australian Association of Social Workers (Mental Health Social Worker) or membership of PACFA (Psychotherapy and Counselling Federation of Australia) / ACA (Australian Counselling Association)
  • Substantial relevant experience related to the provision of mental health support including suicide crisis and risk intervention
  • Ability to assess risk and refer for appropriate therapeutic interventions
  • Ability to work independently, show initiative, problem solve and work productively as part of a team
  • Knowledge of appropriate liaison and referral pathways and current mental health research
